John Turner hails from Nottingham where he discovered his first love, playing professional cricket for his county. After proving himself to be pretty handy with a bat, he moved to London where he studied film at Westminster University. When he graduated, he earned his stripes as a runner on various feature films, music videos and commercials. John then made the jump to working at Virgin Media as a creative director, where he worked on various award-winning campaigns. His achievements were acknowledged and rewarded when he won Promax Gold for “Best Newcomer”, and Promax Silver (World), and Gold (Europe), in the “Best Director” categories.
John’s work as a film director include, shooting a ground breaking VR job with O2 and the England rugby team in 2016, and he shot his first short film entitled “Be As You Wish To Seem” in 2017, and has ambitions to move into features.
John’s latest branded films include ‘The Search for Blue Gold’ for Red Bull, a documentary-style film for iconic fashion brand, Baracuta, and a beautiful charity film ‘Live Life Then Give Life’ which he made with JWT London. His high profile branded documentary for Mercedes with AMV BBDO #stylepitstop in conjunction with London Fashion Week and featuring Daisy Lowe, Tinie Tempa, Reggie Yates and Dermot O’Leary was another huge success.
John’s passion and skill at stills photography is ever present in all his live action work. It is at once impeccably framed and exquisitely lit. His shooting style combines beautiful and thoughtful human imagery, and is neatly tied together with his trademark documentary style of narrative. He loves working with real people, in real situations. Consistently embracing the moment and finding that little piece of magic that is ubiquitous throughout his work.
