EMMY winning director Kevin Thomas has carved out an enviable reputation for his expansive, diverse and wildly mischievous body of work, which encompasses emotive storytelling, peerless art direction and effortless comic timing. Kevin began his career as a Creative working at shops including: AMV, TBWA, Lowes and M&C Saatchi. The turn to directing was frankly inevitable.
After brief stints at Blink and Godman, Kevin then left to form his own production company Thomas Thomas Films which he ran for over two decades. Kevin has directed for global brands such as Google, Amazon, BMW, Sony, Nike, Apple and Adidas amongst others. He has been named as one of the Top Ten Commercial Directors of the Decade by Shots Magazine and his work has garnered the most respected awards in the industry including the Cannes Lions, the D&AD Pencils and the British Arrows. His Citibank Campaign for Fallon won the EMMY for most outstanding TV campaign of the year. It was also honoured with Campaign of the Year Award in Adweek.
He has worked with a host of celebrities, including Uma Thurman, Ray Winstone, Anna Friel, Julie Walters, Lennox Lewis, Tony Hawk, Gary Lineker, Mitchell & Webb and Jarvis Cocker. Recently, Kevin has also won a clutch of awards for The Wayback. Set around the 1953 Queens Coronation and the 1966 World Cup, the virtual reality series of short films, both written and directed by Kevin, are designed for people living with dementia. They were showcased at the prestigious South by Southwest Festival in Austin and are a permanent feature in the BFI archive.
Outside of advertising, Kevin is prolific in the world of short film. His 40 minute short ‘True Love (Once Removed)’ won best short film at Palm Springs, Houston and Clermont Ferrand and later went on to qualify for an Oscar nomination. Another short, ‘Sunday Lunch’, written by and Starring David Thewlis, received critical acclaim and premiered at The London Film Festival. Stephen Fry, an exec producer on the film, said it was the “Best short film I’ve ever seen”. Though recently Kevin has been more focussed on writing and developing longer format projects (he is currently attached to three feature film projects), his love and passion for advertising has never waned.
