Fred is BAFTA-winning, Grammy and BIFA-nominated director based in London, specialising in documentary portraiture in feature documentary, branded content and commercials.

Having started his career making music videos and documentaries for artists such as PJ Harvey, Coldplay, Laura Marling, The Maccabees, Elbow, Patti Smith and Benjamin Clementine amongst many others, Fred began a prolific  and varied commercials career. He’s worked across many client sectors, creating award-winning (British Arrows, Kinsale Sharks and Creative Circle) campaigns for brands such as Facebook, Stella Artois, Intel, McDonalds, Barclays, Tesco, NHS, MoD, Pride, Vodafone, Dr. Martens, British Airways and many more. 

At home working with both actors and non-actors, Fred’s ability to create intimate, character-driven stories in both commercial and documentary sits at the heart of his approach as a filmmaker. Additionally, he has recently directed the main TVC campaigns for Centre Parcs and Remarkable - both of which demonstrate his ability to fuse complex and cinematic VFX with a rich realism.

His documentary work spans both the arts and broader social impact subjects. He won a BAFTA in 2025 for his film about the British justice system London Bridge - and this year has completed a documentary project with groundbreaking performance artist Marina Abramović called For The Duration. His film Being a Human Person about the reclusive Swedish filmmaker Roy Andersson, was theatrically released by Curzon Artificial Eye and garnered huge critical acclaim. Described by Mark Kermode as “a strange and wonderful film”, it was a NY Times Critics Pick, has a rare 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes - and was nominated for a BIFA film award for Best Documentary.
