Kate, coming from a photography and art direction background, already had a distinct visual style when she directed her first conceptual dance films followed by her award-winning short: VERT, 2020, starring Nikki-Amika Bird, and Nick Frost, which showcases her signature genre-leaning tension and the emotional nuance of complex characters, conveyed by delicate dialogue, strong physical performances, and a bold vision. She went on to direct her debut feature, a female revenge thriller set in Cornwall, called INTO THE DEEP 2022, produced by Teashop Films.
Her TVCs often incorporate world-building that can lean towards the surreal and create a world for the characters and audience to immerse themselves in. Having a background in improvisational movement, there’s always something of the physical, be it dance or camera movement, which lends itself to sports and briefs that dare to stand out.
Kate is currently developing her sophomore feature FLORRI, a romantic folk-horror set within a kaleidoscopic, queer-coded reimagination of the Yorkshire Dales.
