DARK ENERGY FILMS ARE DELIGHTED TO BE SIGNING NOTABLE BEAUTY DIRECTOR ROBERT ERDMANN

A inimitable fashion photographer Robert first got his opportunity to make a transition into film. with Oxfam through RKCR/Y+R, he shot three films (coinciding with the print campaign which he shot simultaneously) positioning Oxfam as a fashion brand.  Robert has since shot beauty films for various beauty clients as well as for the launch of Russian Allure.

Robert Erdmann’s interest in fashion and beauty began when he encountered Avedon’s photographs while getting his BA in the history of photography at Princeton University. Afterwards he worked in fashion between New York and Milan and was able to work with inspirational photographers including Deborah Turbeville, Helmut Newton, Barry Lategan, Bill King and Bruce Weber. 

Starting out on his own in London, he worked for I-D magazine, The Face and British Vogue. Malcolm McClaren was a huge influence and gave him access to the music scene. Robert went on to photograph Iggy Pop, Simply Red, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, David Bowie and Morissey among others, and more recently has had a close working relationship with Beyoncé. 

Moving to Paris, Robert began to work extensively in fashion, enjoying long term relationships with the Condé Nast titles: Paris Vogue, British Vogue and others; the ELLE titles: French Elle and others; and the Marie Claire titles: Italian Marie Claire and others. When Robert made the move to Los Angeles he worked under contract for American Condé Nast (Vogue, Allure, Glamour and GQ) as well as Time Warner. The experience of shooting extensive covers provided him with the ability and confidence to work with major talent from the worlds of film, TV and music.
